About the event

Music Without Borders proudly presents "Diwan: The Songs of the Diaspora", an original orchestral composition by the brilliant composers Husam Numan & Gaby Al Botros. Held in the esteemed Nanji Family Foundation Auditorium at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Ontario, this captivating performance celebrates the cultural legacy of the Mahjar Arab poets through original compositions using Arabic poetry.

The Mahjar was related to Romanticism migrant literary movement started by Arabic-speaking poets who had emigrated to the Americas. These poets, such as Khalil Gebran, Omar Abu Risha, Mikhail Naimy, among others, eloquently expressed their experiences, dreams, and struggles through the captivating medium of poetry. Their verses have since become a testament to the resilience, beauty, and diversity of the Arab diaspora.
